The Acrylicos Vallejo company, registered in New Jersey, U.S.A. in 1965, initially specialized in the manufacture of colors for animated films (cartoons). However, the company's most sustained expansion began in the 1990s with the introduction of new products directed at the Model painting and Hobby sector, making it the first specialist in acrylic colors with a long and varied experience in all aspects of this branch of manufacturing.

Acrylicos Vallejo's Model Air paints are pre-thinned acrylic airbrush colours that are water-based, non-toxic, and non-flammable. These paints come in a 17ml eyedropper bottle, which prevents spills. The formula contains a new acrylic resin with properties that were previously impossible to obtain in a water-based acrylic. The resistance, hardness, and covering power of Model Air is superior to any known acrylic for airbrushing.

The pigments used for airbrush colours need to be ground to the finest possible consistency to avoid obstruction of the airbrush valves. The revolutionary milling process of the pigments used in the Model Air formula gives the model painter technical assurance and the finest texture when applying the colours to the model. This also produces a very superior quality when applying the colours with a brush for meticulous details, for washes and transparencies, and for layered application of diluted glazes.

Colours can be mixed with water, Model Air Thinner, or Varnish, according to the desired effect, but the use of Model Air Thinner is recommended as it conserves the properties of the colours. Model Air adheres exceptionally well to all surfaces, including resin models, plastic, steel, and white metal. Once protected with varnish (Gloss, Matte, or Satin), Model Air can be overpainted with solvent-based enamels or oil colours, and it can withstand cleaning with turpentine and even a light wash with alcohol. The resistance to abrasion of the colours, once varnished, is superior to any other water-based acrylic.
